'The Shrubs of Kilimanjaro' is a story of human spirit lifted by struggles of an animal. 'Volvos and Water Moccasins' is a slice of life look at struggles of life and internal conflicts of the human heart. 'The Sacred Hunt' is a coming of age story that presents grand themes that go well beyond the usual. Readers who love short stories love Jerry File Jr. and this collection because of his range, voice, and the different vectors Jerry always uses to in presenting the human condition and foibles of his characters. Literary in nature, it is a collection his readers keep on the shelf (and take down to read from time to time).
